Unstoppable Faith: Overcoming Challenges to Follow Christ's Call

man baptized

The second chapter of Acts records the occasion when the gospel was first preached. With the attention-getting speaking in tongues by the apostles having enabled Jews from every nation to hear the salvation of Christ preached in their own native language, Peter’s sermon reached a crescendo, as he answered a guilt-stricken throng with the instruction,

“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38).

I was blessed to witness my friend, Everette Bolin, obey the gospel in the same way those 3,000 did on Pentecost. But Everette had the logistical challenge of a tracheostomy, meaning that he breathes through a tube into his windpipe.

No matter. He plugged the opening with a towel and was buried with Christ in baptism.

The words of Marshall Keeble came vividly to life:

“When a man is ready to obey the gospel, all the devils in hell can’t hold him back.”

No, they can’t. God bless you, Everette
