Like many of you, Valerie and I have found it hard to watch the news reports of the massive death, destruction and devastation brought about by the war in Israel. In one interview, a man told how he had lost his wife in the bombings when their home had blown apart. He began to cry as he told how he couldn’t find her in the rubble and he had to get out to save their children! Now he said he didn’t know where he’d find the strength to carry on.
You know, it got me to thinking about how we can find the strength to carry on as we face the challenges of life. First of all, we can all find strength when we go down on our knees in prayer! We certainly need to pray for the innocent men and women who have been victimized by this terrible war! We should pray for their safety and that God will help them to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and move forward with faith, hope and determination.
Secondly, we can find strength when we ask God to use us as instruments of peace. Realize that we are His hands to carry out His will during difficult times of life! We should use our time, talent and resources to help others, not only find strength to overcome their troubles but to give strength to those who are downtrodden and in despair.
The bible says, “Blessed be God even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” (II Cor. 1:3-4)
Lastly, we find strength in knowing that we’ve made preparation for eternity by obeying the will of God for our lives. The truth is that one day each of us will have to say goodbye to all that we have built for ourselves in this life. We will have to leave this world behind and face eternity. We find strength in knowing that when we are obedient to the gospel of Jesus Christ, we have a eternal home that awaits us that nothing can ever destroy!
I find strength in seeing the tremendous outpouring of love and generosity that the Pinnacle church family demonstrates towards those in need, (like we did during the tornadoes that tore through our city last Spring). I pray that God will continue to bless us in our efforts to help hurting souls find the strength that they need to carry on!
