"Are You In Good Hands?”

Writer's picture: John PhillipsJohn Phillips

I’m sure you’ve probably seen the commercial on TV where the couple is riding in their car and suddenly a truck comes out of nowhere and hits them. While you’re still reeling from the shock, the announcer cuts in with the insurance sales pitch. In his deep booming bass voice he says, “Now would be a good time to ask, are you in good hands?

You know, it got me to thinking that maybe that’s a question that we should all ask ourselves in regard to our spiritual assurance! Friends, we live in an uneasy world and the prevailing feeling among most of us is that anything can happen at anytime. Acts of global warfare, random violence in schools, and even tragic accidents dominate the evening news! In many ways, the world we live in now is less safe than it has ever been. But while we can’t know what the future holds, the people of God can confidently rely in Him who holds the future in His hands! The prophet Isaiah wrote,

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” (Isa. 41:10)

Like many of you reading this article, Valerie and I personally know all too well that life can be filled with uncertainty. But the one thing that Christians can be assured of is that we are in good hands when we abide with God through faith and obedience to the gospel of Christ! We have the assurance of God’s word that He will extend His providential protection and gracious provision to us as we abide in Him.

No one knows what the future holds in store for us, but we can be confident and courageous when we know that God stands ready to strengthen, help and uphold us if we abide with Him.

If you’re not a Christian, now would be a good time to ask yourself, “Are you in good hands?”
